Hip Hop...looks over lyrics.

Seems like everybody's a musician these days. Sales for music production equipment is thru the roof! Facebook and other social sites are full of borderline decent artists that flood the system with mediocre music. Producers are taking the rap game over because people nowadays are more interested in how the beat sounds over what the artist is actually saying. They say quite often in these emails sent out to indie artists... only willing to work with "serious" individuals. This basically means..."I'm charging for my service and depending on the type of service, i may only have to render false numbers to comply with my end of the agreement". Then there's the video aspect of it all. Videos are a necessity, I get it. But I feel as though we are in a time where nobody gives a rat's ass about the lyrics, punchlines, content, and wordplay used in a song. They want the beat to bang in their car, sound good in the club, and videos for them to sit in front of a computer and watch...instead of coming to shows and showing the support that will further carreers of such artists. Its pretty sad when a wack ass song with a video goes viral over music that reaches out to the masses on many different levels.Lyricism was the main weapon used to catapult hip hop as a genre into an industry that catered to everything but. Now what we have left is a diluted version. People don't care what you say anymore in hip hop. Well maybe I should say...not enough people care. Emcees are the minority to trap music, and wack rappers with cash flow. Sad but true. Lemme know how you feel about this...leave a comment!

  1. If I don't like the content, I will not listed, regardless of the beat! It is good that there are still artists out there that are telling their story rather than talking about an "ice cream paintjob" or whatever b.s. they think is catchy.

  2. Keep on doin what you do, Mr. Mac. Your talent, drive, and determination are valued and ought to be appreciated by a wider audience. Those that defy the mainstream hype and temptations to remain true their unique selves and their principles are few and far between. You, sir, are one of those few. Your lyrics reach beyond the surface and demonstrate true intellect and wit that is generally missing on the radio.

  3. Thanks for the comment Sheila. What you say is true. Theee has to be a demand for real hip hop again before people gravitate towards making better music for this genre.

  5. I couldn't agree more. Art has become a hustle, no longer expression. It's sad to think about but its reality.

  6. I see you fam!...I think what it boils down to is, every trend runs a "course" or a "cycle" if you will, similar to style and fashion, who thought high top fades would see another day!? Personally I think we're witnessing the perfect storm, because after all the hype wares down from this "Ex-Ddoy I throw money at b!tches for fun" phase dies down, what's left are serious artists ready to breathe real life into these dope tracks being produced today. And the game will shift once more, to a place where, if what your saying makes no sence it will show, forcing artists ti be a little more tactful in how they approach song writing...soon everyone will be able to dance and learn something new, from the same song...
