Transplant patient gets aids from new kidney

Wow....this unfortunate organ recipient was given a kidney from a donor that had unprotected gay sex within the 11 week time frame of getting tested and the actual surgery. This is the first documented occurrence since testing began in the mid 1980's.

Living organ donors are tested on a routine basis, but the organization that oversees the transplant doesn't have anything in writing that says when or how close to the surgery the donors should be tested. From the sounds of it they dont have a clue as to how often this has happened either.

How close to the time of the transplant should testing for infectious diseases be given to the live donor?
